Well it's time for the Dogwood Trails Festival again. It's something that most of us look forward to annually because for one thing I know that Spring is finally here and most of the cold weather is behind us for a while. Some people seem to enjoy the torture of winter, but not me. Oh well back to what I wanted to say. The dogwood is a symbol for those of us that are of the Christian faith. All of you know the story of how the dogwood once was a mighty tree and was used to build the cross upon which Jesus was crucified. It was then that God decided that the tree would never again be capable of being used for such a purpose again and the tree has been small and twisted since that day. It now grows in the shade of larger trees and rarely survives in the harsh sunlight. The flowers are in the shape of a cross with the tips of each petal tinged as if blood stained, in the center of the flower there is, what appears to be a crown of thorns, representing the crown that was placed on Jesus' head that fateful day.
